Effective inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education classroom has benefits for all students, staff and families. In this presentation, we will define inclusion as outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), review elements of inclusion, identify benefits and barriers to inclusive classrooms and provide strategies for fostering an inclusive classroom environment. Attendees will have the opportunity to actively participate through case studies and idea sharing. Useful resources on inclusion will be shared to provide opportunities to further participant’s education on this topic.
